FPV goggles

Rugged computers, controllers, sensors and communications equipment arranged at a field station.

Tairos FPV goggles combine an encrypted video receiver with a head-mounted display and Sentinel overlays. The pilot sees the live camera image together with selected information from the airframe, Sentinel Edge and Panorama.

The gap they close

Commercial goggles display the video stream and basic telemetry. A Tairos pilot also needs to understand what the onboard tracking system sees, what the wider formation knows and whether control currently belongs to the pilot or an authorized autonomous mission mode.

The Tairos display brings that context into the same field of view.

Operator overlays

  • target-track or seeker reticle from the onboard sensing function;
  • a directional threat cue derived from Panorama when the track is outside the camera view;
  • airframe state such as battery, altitude and link quality;
  • handoff state between the pilot and Sentinel mission mode; and
  • selected formation context relevant to the pilot’s task.

The display is filtered for immediate pilot decisions rather than reproducing the entire command-post interface.

Encrypted video path

The receiver is bound to the Tairos video and communications path. Decryption and overlay composition remain inside the Tairos operator system, reducing dependence on third-party firmware in the mission video chain.

Perception and action are separate

The goggles carry perception, not ARM authority. Effect authorization stays on Merlin TX or the Ground segment through a positive hardware-gated action. Separating the display from the authorization device prevents the video surface from becoming an arming path.

System relationship

  • Merlin TX: direct control, handoff and own-airframe authorization.
  • Panorama: formation and threat context.
  • Sentinel Edge: onboard track and sensor information.
  • Ground segment: wider mission command and network state.
